Our Centre

The pranpratishtha of the Iyengar Yoga Centre Yogakshema, Delhi, was performed by Padmashri Yogacharya BKS Iyengar on April 25 th, 2008 in the august presence of ex-Vice President Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Shri L.K. Advani, Shri Murli Manohar Joshi and other dignitaries. The building is an aesthetically designed unique structure - built on stilts – surrounded by a landscaped water body. For the construction of this center the architect has adopted the Egyptian principle of the golden proportion.

Fully equipped with every prop and accessory used in the philosophy and teaching of the “Iyengar Yoga”, this institute promises to teach you every technique, posture and nuance that embodies this unique, research based practice of yoga sutras.

The wooden floored, air-conditioned yoga hall with glass exteriors allows ample natural light within the class-room making the landscaped outside greenery a part of the interiors – thus creating a serene zen-like ambience within the yoga studio. The individual changing rooms for men and women have facilities for shower, closets to hang clothes and lockers for valuables. The centre boasts a library covering various yoga topics with a secluded sit-down reading space. A small self-sufficient cafeteria complements the library.

The Heritage store in the basement offers many yoga related items for sale like props, cds, videos, t-shirts and tights made from organic material – this completes a full circle where every minute detail for student comfort has been attended to – setting up a new benchmark for a state-of-the-art yoga centre!

About Nivedita Joshi

Nivedita Joshi was born and educated in Allahabad. Still in her teens she was stricken by slip disc – cervical spondylosis rendering her virtually bedridden and invalid for eight long painful years. Nivedita lost the ability to move her hands and legs. She lost all hope in life – as every effort to cure met with failure. Till one day the hand of destiny led her to Yogacharya BKS Iyengar and his yoga institute in Pune. She went there initially for a month in a wheel chair – but stayed on for a year – and came out resolved - walking unaided. Yoga gave back her life – and her life became yoga.

Nivedita became an ardent disciple of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar.

Her thought :

“What I lost -----------
nobody should and what I have achieved (through yoga) should be shared with all”.

This thought gave the birth to Delhi Yogakshram Centre – where the only accredited Iyengar yoga classes are conducted.

Apart from this Nivedita has conducted yoga workshops in various cities of France with S.F. Biria.

She also visited South Africa as a delegate for a seminar on Alternative Medicine and Low Cost Health Care organized by the CII. Her lecture demonstrations on Management of Stress & Strain were appreciated by a large audience in Johannesburg.

Additionally Nivedita conducted 2 days workshop for business executives for stress management and a 40 days yoga workshop for 2,000 students.

Her intensely sensitive being has inspired her to pen her thoughts down in verse – Her 1st collection of poems entitled Nange Paon was published in 1999.

Nivedita also wrote lyrics for Subha Mudgal’s album “Kisson ki chadar” which was a big hit.

Her love for the creative arts led her to learn kathak for 7 years – under the guidance of Shri Jagat Mohan Sinha of Bhatkhande School in Lucknow.

But ofcourse her passion remains the subject that gave her a new birth in life – YOGA!
